Kpoping Cooking; Green Tea Ice Cream

Green Tea Ice Cream is a very popular summer snack in Korea. It might not be the sweetest, but it definitely up in the ranks right next to red bean. Even though it’s beginning to grow cold, today I’ll share with you the recipe on how to make your own Green Tea Ice Cream.

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 tablespoons of green tea powder. (matcha)
  • 2/3 cup of granulated sugar
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 cups of half-and-half milk

Instructions with ice cream maker:

  1. Whisk the green tea powder, sugar, and yolk together.
  2. Warm up 1 cup of your half-and-half milk, and slowly add it to the mixture while whisking vigorously.
  3. Heat the entire mixture while slowly pouring the remainder of the half-and-half over a low heat.
  4. When the mixture has become thick enough to coat the back of a spoon and is beginning to foam, turn off the heat.
  5. Let the mixture cool completely, then let it chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
  6. Churn for about 20 minutes in your ice cream maker (according to manufacture instructions).
  7. Move the ice cream into an airtight container and freeze for at least 3 hours before serving.

Instructions without ice cream maker:

**Right here is where I add my improv. Basically this is how I make ice cream.

  1. Fill a metal bowl with water and ice. Make sure this bowl is bigger than your bowl of ice cream.
  2. Let your ice cream bowl float inside the ice cold water
  3. Let it sit for 2-3 hours or until the top of the ice cream has white (kind of like a freezing over affect, not really sure how to explain it.).
  4. I just eat it after doing this.

Just in case you’re wondering, this is what green tea powder looks like.

So, if it’s in a package similar to this, you’ve probably got the right thing.

Just keep swimming until next time~!
